In 2013, Mandli was hired by Star Intermodal Transportation to do a project of a different scale. The issues they were having was detecting the clash points (street lights, bus stops, fire hydrants, utility poles, etc.) of the NASA shuttle external fuel tank they were tasked with moving. The fuel tank was approximately 165 feet long, 34 feet tall, and weighed 75,000 pounds. While this project may sound like it would be outside Mandli’s scope, it was exactly the sort of problem Mandli’s portable Maverick solution was designed to solve. Mandli deployed its Maverick system and one technician down to Florida to drive the 55 mile route to help the company and state Department of Transportation find all the clash points the tank may come into contact with. The final result was the discovery of over 300 items marked for collision.
